StationVStationV is the cyber home of Vic Hooper. Although not a blog, it reflects my latest interests in website design, marketing and communications, computer technology particularly that dealing with Macintosh products and applications made by or for Apple. His life long career as as a choir director and music consultant remains a large part of his daily activities.
Getting that music degree called for lots of liquids.
Vic Hooper started his musical career as a self taught piano/organ player performing in community dance bands in the area surrounding his home town of Waskada, Manitoba. After just a couple years of studying piano and voice in his late teens, he began his formal music education at Brandon University where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Music Education. He also holds a certificate in Commercial Art from Assiniboine Community College and a pre masters certificate in Education (drama) from the University of Manitoba. His professional career began teaching general and choral music and art in The St. James-Assiniboia School Division in Winnipeg, MB spanning grades 1 to 12.
June of 2005 marked the end of his 29 year career with The St. James-Assiniboia School Division - 13 years Teaching, 14 years as Music Coordinator along with teaching choral music and art at Silver Heights Collegiate and directing the award winning St. James-Assiniboia Divisional Senior Chamber Choir, and 2 years as Coordinator of the Arts.
In his "retirement" he continues to work with choirs as director (Rainbow Harmony Project) and as a clinician. With the time and opportunity to expand his horizons, Vic is further developing his passion for designing websites, volunteering his computer and graphic arts knowledge with the Manitoba Choral Association, and expanding his skills at building data bases using Filemaker Pro.
Vic lives in a downtown modernized Victorian home with his partner, Pieter Jongbloed.
"I feel privileged to have had the opportunity throughout my career to encourage children and adults to develop their vocal skills in order to enjoy, with confidence, the art of making music through singing." -Vic
